Laundry/Sewing Room Worker I
Starting salary $1,574.41
Position performs routine manual and semi-skilled work for an institutional laundry providing services for individuals with mental/physical challenges. Work involves sorting, classifying, weighing and recording of weights, flatwork ironing, thermapatch machine and tying machine, folding, preparing linen for delivery and routine cleaning of work areas. This position will pick-up and deliver linen to individuals home on a daily basis, count, long and report inventory of linen on client homes, keep linen closets neat in appearance and may drive a truck/trailer combo around campus. Work involves both light and heavy physical labor. This position normally works from 5:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday. Occasional work on weekends, holidays and hours other than regularly scheduled may be required.

Laundry Worker I works under the close supervision of the Operations Supervisor with minimal latitude for use of initiative and independent judgement. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques. Decisions are simple and based on well-defined guidelines. Decisions are simple and based on well-defined guidelines. Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Sort, classify, and weigh soiled linens and clothing.
Load, operate and unload washers and dryers.
Maintain linen log for inventory counts, order filing, and deliver
Folds clothing and other items as needed
Maintain a clean and safe environment to meet infection control and safety standards.
Pickup/Deliver laundry as needed
Perform pick-ups/deliveries from/to individuals homes.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency?s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of laundering techniques and procedures.
Skill in the operation of washers, extractors, tumblers, presses, irons, and flat work ironers; and in the use of soaps, bleaches, and washing solutions.
Ability to sort and record weights of laundry items.
Knowledge of laundering techniques and procedures; of the tools, and equipment used; and of proper lifting techniques.
Ability to perform routine job functions on daily basis; ability to work closely with others; ability to effectively communicate with others; and ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Ability to work in close proximity to individuals served.
Ability to drive, make pick-ups/deliveries, load and unload 4 wheeled carts weighing up to 600lbs.


Registration or Licensure Requirements:


Initial Selection Criteria:
Experience in laundry/sewing services preferred.

One of the following is required:
Paid or unpaid experience in performing laundry and/or sewing services; or
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent; or
Some work experience.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work holidays, overtime, and/or extended hours based on workload
