Cook IV Performs advanced (senior-level) food preparation work.
Work involves planning, preparing, seasoning, and cooking food;
monitoring inventories and records of food consumption; and making
recommendations for improvement. May serve as a lead worker
providing direction to others. Work well under pressure and within
the time limit. May supervise the work of others. Works under
limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of
initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a
specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule,
extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave
policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Plans and prepares, seasons, and cooks food according to menus,
special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or established
Ensures adequate controls are maintained over food preparation
quantities and portion sizes.
Ensures that perishables and frozen foods are stored under correct
temperatures and conditions.
Coordinates the inspection of food items on arrival for quantity,
quality, and temperature conditions.
Calculates food requirement estimates.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of quantity food preparation techniques and procedures,
and of modified and calculated diet preparation methods.
Ability to weigh, measure, mix and prep ingredients according to

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Texas requires food handler training for all individuals working in

Initial Selection Criteria:
Two(2) years experience in food preparation work.
Thorough experience with hot and cold food preparation.
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is
A college or other culinary program in cooking preferred.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary
guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the
