Then the Health and Specialty Care System (HSCS) may be just the place for you! The HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals located throughout the state, and one youth residential psychiatric center in Waco. The HSCS is a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan. This position is 8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday in the maintenance department as an HVAC Mechanic I. The HVAC Mechanic I performs moderately complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) mechanic work at the North Texas State Hospital. Work involves the maintenance and repair of industrial and residential HVAC equipment as well as food storage freezers and refrigerated storage units. May supervise the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Checks work in progress to ensure compliance with instructions. Assists in alterations to buildings, new construction, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Tracks information for an automated work order program to ensure accurate cost accounting of materials and time. Stands emergency maintenance call on a rotating basis as scheduled. Work is performed under the supervision of the HVAC Mechanic II, Assistant Plant Maintenance Manager and Plant Maintenance Manager. Essential Job Functions:Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. 1: Diagnose malfunctions in refrigeration, air conditioning & heating equipment and repair malfunctions in any of the equipment. 2: Maintain a preventative maintenance program on all equipment assigned to the department. 3: Supervises, trains, and assists junior personnel in the use of stationary equipment, power tools, ladders, hand tools, bucket truck, etc. according to equipment SOPs and department procedure to ensure quality results and safety of operator, patients, and staff. 4: Install new HVACR equipment and associated systems as needed. 5: Maintain and verify EPA records for the use of CFC/HCFC refrigerants. 6: Enters information into an automated work order program to ensure accurate cost accounting of materials and time. 7: Properly read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics. 8: Stands emergency maintenance call on a rotating basis according to Maintenance Procedures to provide needed services. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities:1. Working knowledge and general principles of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating. 2. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; to work from blue prints and sketches, to lay out and supervise work; to maintain labor and materials records; and to prepare simple reports. 3. Basic Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Energy Management Systems. 4. Ability to lift 50 lbs. 5. Required to work overtime and standby call outs. 6. Ability to work from high ladders and/or scaffolding. 7. Ability to work in extreme heat and cold weather. 8. Knowledge of Joint Commission, NFPA and ADA standards. 9. Ability to maintain effective working relations, to organize and operate a preventative maintenance program, and to develop effective work methods. 10. Computer skills Registration or Licensure Requirements:Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Universal EPA certification for processing CFC / HCFC refrigerants required. Initial Selection Criteria:1. 2 years experience in the repair and installation of commercial HVAC and Refrigeration equipment 2. Type Universal Technician Refrigeration Certification (EPA). 3. Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are considered to be at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients.
